NEW TO THE SPORT?
Here at the Taylorosa Pickleball Club, we promote the game of Pickleball. This is the fastest-growing sport in the United States. It’s easy to learn, fast-paced, and a great aerobic exercise without much risk of injury. What we hear the most from players is how addictive it is to play!
Pickleball is a paddleball sport (similar to a racquet sport) that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. Players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, much like a wiffle ball, over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports: the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, a net, and rules somewhat similar to tennis, with several modifications.
Pickleball has elements of both fast-paced and slow-paced shots, similar to hitting crisp ground strokes and drop shots in tennis. Players are typically labeled as “dinkers” (drop shots) and/or “bangers” (powerful ground strokes). Skilled pickleball players can employ both types of shots in the same point to get their opponents out of position and/or to make them hit a difficult shot.
Each game usually lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes. You only score when your team is serving, and you must win 11 points (and be ahead by two points) to win the game. Doubles is the overwhelming choice of play for most pickleball players, but those who like to play singles in tennis will like the similarity of shot-making in pickleball singles!
If you want to learn how to play the game but want to “get a feel for it” first, click on the “Contact” tab at the top and send us an email. We love to set up informal two to four-person clinics for newcomers to the sport!
